1. DC Power Electronics:

We use this power-sharing supply when the appliances in the home are equipped with heat and lightning and comprise huge motors.

3. Three-Phase AC Power Electronics:

Three-phase AC power is an electric power distribution system using a three-wire circuit and a star-connected secondary winding on the transformer. The three phases labels are L, N, and PE. L is the line phase that provides power to the equipment connected to the distribution panel.

N is the neutral phase that returns the current to the source for powering other loads at different voltage levels. PE or Protective Earth is another name for the ground.

It is worth noticing that the 3 phase power supplies use as single-phase AC power supplies. It includes four wires, and one of the wires is the neutral wire, and the other 3 are conductor wires. The three conductor wires are away from the phase and space, and they have a phase angle of 120º from each other.

4. Thyristor Power Electronics:

A power thyristor is a three-terminal, bi-stable device, and it comprises alternative n- and p-layers in the structure. It functions as a bistable switch, capable of conducting when turned on by an applied voltage or pulse.

The point here to be noticed is that if the thyristor is closed, there is no voltage drop between anode and cathode, and if it is open, then there is no current passing through anode and cathode.

Thyristors are extensively used in power control applications because they permit high power switching at low speeds, commutation independent of the load current, and excellent blocking characteristics.

It covers various thyristors’ applications, including AC motor control, circuit protection, high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission, and inverter-based power conversion.

In short, it is basically an n-channel junction field-effect transistor (JFET) with the addition of a fourth layer or gate electrode.
