Applications:
This machine is used to find the percentage wear due to relative rubbing action between the aggregates and steel balls used as abrasive charge. The oven-dried aggregates are weighed and rotated along with abrasive charge in the machine for the 500 or 1000 revolutions and percentage of wear so found out is reported Los Angeles abrasion value.
Construction & Features:

• The machine consists of a hollow steel cylinder, closed at both ends, with an internal diameter of 700 mm and an internal length of 500 mm.
• The cylinder is mounted on a sturdy shaft with ball bearings, allowing it to rotate horizontally.
• An opening is provided in the cylinder for pouring the test sample.
• The opening is sealed with a removable cover equipped with a sturdy pad, secured using bolts and nuts to ensure a dust-tight closure.
• A removable steel shelf, projecting 8.8 cm radially and running the full length of the cylinder, is mounted rigidly parallel to the axis on the interior surface.
• The shelf is positioned 125 cm from the opening along the circumference, measured in the direction of rotation.
• The drum rotates at 30–33 RPM, driven by an electric motor via a heavy-duty reduction gear.
• Fitted with a pre-settable electronic revolution counter and a push-button starter.
• Supplied complete with a galvanized tray for material collection.
• Includes an abrasive charge of 12 cast iron or hardened steel spheres, each approximately 48 mm in diameter and weighing 390 to 445 grams.
