SPECIFICATION

This apparatus effectively demonstrates newton's second law of motion. It comprises of a metal base that mounts a spring-loaded bar and two metal spheres. The spring is compressed and locked into place by a lever. One of the spheres slides onto one end of the bar while the other is mounted in the depression adjacent to the opposite end.
On release of the lever the rod imparts a horizontal velocity on the second sphere whilst the other sphere simply falls vertically. Thus, this proves that the vertical and horizontal velocities are independent, as both spheres should fall at the same rate.
