- Melting Point Apparatus is a device that allows you to measure the temperature at which a solid melts into a liquid. Instead of using a thermometer, you place the solid in the chamber and insert a conical rod down into it. The rod has a hole in the center that allows you to see the bottom of the chamber. As it melts, the solid will rise through the hole and then become level with the top of the chamber, where you can take its temperature with an infrared sensor. The apparatus comes with six different rods to accommodate various sizes of solids, each marked with its own melting point along its length.
